Education at the Met

HD Live in Schools brings the artistry of the Metropolitan Opera to school districts across all 50 states, enabling students to enjoy current Met productions as well as a vast archive of world-class performances through Met Opera on Demand.

Access Opera: Guild Open Rehearsals for Students enables local students to attend final dress rehearsals live at the Metropolitan Opera House, as well as providing discount tickets to evening performances for schools that have participated in the program.

Through the Met Students program, full-time undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to purchase tickets to select performances at a special discount rate, attend exclusive events, and serve as campus ambassadors.

Designed for university students and instructors, this initiative provides exclusive access to conversations with Met composers, multimedia curricular resources, and rare archival materials through institutional subscriptions to Met Opera on Demand.

Our Family Open Houses allows thousands of children and families to take part in hands-on musical explorations and experience behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage and artistic staff.

Met Opera Education continues to foster partnerships with local, student-focused organizations throughout the city, ensuring that students of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to engage with opera and the performing arts.

Our Educator Guides help teachers bring HD Live in Schools offerings to life. Each of the 50+ guides comprises contextual information and historical timelines, explanatory essays and interviews, musical and textual analyses, and classroom activities for students of all ages.

Full synopses to nearly 30 operas, broken down in a few pages and told in the style of a graphic novel—all based on Met productions offered through HD Live in Schools or accessible through Met Opera on Demand. Several synopses are also available in Spanish translation.
