Acclaimed Wagnerian James Morris is the tortured Flying Dutchman of the title, the legendary figure doomed to sail the oceans until he finds a woman who will remain true to him until death. Nina Stemme, in her Met debut, sings Senta, the young girl whose sacrifice will finally free him. Valery Gergiev leads the Met Orchestra and Chorus, with Jan-Hendrik Rootering as Senta’s well-meaning father, Daland, and Roland Wagenführer as her suffering fiancé, Erik.
