Bizet
Carmen
In this searing performance, Fedora Barbieri is Carmen, the free-thinking gypsy who loves—and leaves—any man she chooses. The incandescent Mario Del Monaco sings Don José. As the two meet, fate tragically intervenes and Carmen’s game suddenly turns desperately real. Frank Guarrera is the magnetic bullfighter Escamillo who lures Carmen away from Don José and unwittingly seals her doom. The great Fritz Reiner conducts the Met orchestra and chorus.
