Mozart
Così fan tutte
The last production to open before the cancelation of the Met’s 2019–20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic was an effervescent revival of Mozart’s Così fan tutte. In this radio broadcast, an outstanding ensemble of skilled singers takes the stage in the composer’s classic comedy of the sexes. Enthralling rising soprano Nicole Car is the steadfast Fiordiligi, opposite mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi as her sister, the carefree Dorabella. Tenor Ben Bliss and bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni are the ladies’ fiancées, who conspire with the cynical Don Alfonso—sung by Met favorite Gerald Finley—to test their fidelity. Soprano Heidi Stober rounds out the principal cast as Despina, with Maestro Harry Bicket conducting Mozart’s sublime score.
