Verdi
Rigoletto
Soprano Nadine Sierra took the Met by storm in 2015 when she made her debut as Gilda in Verdi’s stirring tragedy Rigoletto. The 2018 Beverly Sills Award–winner reprised her winning portrayal in 2019, appearing in Michael Mayer’s neon-bedecked staging, which updates the opera’s action to Las Vegas in 1960. Alongside the American soprano, baritone Roberto Frontali delivered a commanding performance in title role, with tenor Vittorio Grigolo delighting audiences as the lascivious Duke. Nicola Luisotti was on the podium to lead an electrifying performance, which also featured bass Štefan Kocán and mezzo-soprano Ramona Zaharia as the murderous siblings Sparafucile and Maddalena.
