Family Open Houses

The Met’s family programming includes two annual open houses. Our popular Holiday Open House, prior to a matinee performance of the abridged, English-language version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, allows children and families to take part in hands-on musical explorations and experience behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage and artistic staff—including musicians, actors, dancers, and members of the Wig and Costume Shop and scenic departments. Building on the success of this event, in the last two seasons the Met has added a Spring Open House to our family programming. Family Open Houses are free for ticket holders to the day’s matinee performance.

Holiday Open House

Continuing a longstanding tradition, the Met will host its annual Holiday Open House prior to the matinee performance of The Magic Flute on December 14. The Open House invites children and families to take part in hands-on musical explorations and experience behind-the-scenes demonstrations by members of the Met’s backstage and artistic staff, including musicians, actors, dancers, and members of the Wig and Costume Shop.

Spring Open House

The Met and Mythik Camps are joining forces to present the Spring Open House prior to the May 19 performance of Orfeo ed Euridice. Designed as an immersive quest experience, this event invites young operagoers to explore the tale of Orpheus and Euridice by discovering clues, completing missions, and participating in mythology-inspired activity stations around the opera house.
