Magdalena Kuźma

Polish American soprano Magdalena Kuźma is in her second year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program, where her roles this season include Sister Catherine in Jake Heggie's Dead Man Walking, Papagena in The Magic Flute, and Yvette in La Rondine. This summer, she will make her company debut as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro at Aspen Opera Theater under the baton of Matthew Aucoin. She made her Met debut last season as Giannetta in L'Elisir d'Amore. Recent engagements include Juliette in Roméo et Juliette at the Glimmerglass Festival, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Opera Orlando, and Frasquita in Carmen at the Santa Fe Opera. An avid recitalist, she has given solo recitals this season at Wigmore Hall, the Green Music Center at Sonoma State University, Merkin Hall, and the Newport Classical Music Festival, among others. Notable accolades include first place in the Orpheus Vocal Competition, the Partners for the Arts Tenth National Opera Competition, the Butler International Competition, the American Council for Polish Culture's Marcella Kochańska Sembrich Vocal Competition, the Pasadena Opera Competition, and Concert Artists Guild Competition; second place in the Rochester International Vocal Competition and Shreveport Opera Competition; and third place and the Audience Favorite award in the National Opera Association Competition, among others. She is an alumna of the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist Program, the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, Ravinia Steans Music Institute, Renée Fleming's SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, and Houston Grand Opera's Young Artists Vocal Academy. She holds bachelor's degrees from Oberlin College and Conservatory and a master's degree from Yale University, where she received the Dean's Award and was honored as valedictorian.
