Community Partnerships

Met Opera Education continues to foster partnerships with local, student-focused organizations throughout the city. In the spring of 2022, the Met partnered with Housing Works Inc. and the Brooklyn Public Library to host a design content inspired by Philip Glass’s Akhnaten, giving six student teams the opportunity to work with mentors from the Met’s costume shop and create new looks showcased at the People’s Ball.

For the 2022-23 season, local students from the Harlem School of the Arts and the Brotherhood Sister Sol participated in a master class, boxing demonstration, and dance workshop with Met artists and creatives behind Terence Blanchard’s Champion, in addition to attending the final dress rehearsal of the opera.

Earlier this season, soprano Gabriella Reyes visited the Casita Maria center for Arts & Education in the Bronx to perform excerpts from Daniel Catán’s Florencia en el Amazonas before students and their families attended a performance of the opera.
