This Season

Texan tenor Angel Raii Gomez was a 2025 Laffont Competition National Finalist, now in his first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. During the 2025–26 season, he will appear in a concert production of Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortileges with the San Diego Symphony before covering roles in both Andrea Chénier at the Met and the company debut of Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego. Last season, he sang the title roles in Mascagni’s L’Amico Fritz and Gounod’s Faust both at the Academy of Vocal Arts and made his Carnegie Hall debut as the tenor soloist in Mozart’s Requiem. Additional operatic engagements include the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto and Pluton in Offenbach’s Orpheé aux Enfers with Opera North, as well as several roles during his tenure at the Academy of Vocal Arts including Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Percy in Anna Bolena, and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, among others. In addition to his operatic experience, he has appeared on the concert stage as the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Ocean City Pops Orchestra, Verdi’s Requiem with Portland Opera, and Mozart’s Requiem with Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He won first prize in the 2023 Meistersinger Competition at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, first prize in the 2023 Giargiari Bel Canto Competition, and was named a finalist in the 2024 Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition. He is an alumnus of the Academy of Vocal Arts Resident Artist Program and holds a degree in voice from The University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley.
