Please be advised that the Metropolitan Opera will be holding invited actor auditions for the 2022/2023 production of LADY MACBETH OF MTSENSK as follows:

Female Presenting Actors:
Seeking female presenting actors of all ethnicities, mid 30s - mid 60s. Will portray surreal housewives or grandmothers, and townspeople. Must be excellent physical actors, with good sense of music, and comfort in surrealist style. Must be in condition to perform very physical staging. 7 performing cast, 3 covers.

Male Presenting Actors:
Seeking male presenting actors of all ethnicities, mid 20s - mid 40s. Strong, burly laborer types. Must be excellent physical actors, with good sense of music, and comfort in surrealist style. Must be in condition to perform very physical staging. 9 performing cast, 3 covers.

While this audition will not include sexual content, the performance of these roles will include sexual content. Performers may be asked to consent to and engage in the below during rehearsals and performances:

  • Pantomime and Physical contact including: simulated consensual sex acts while clothed, suggestive/sexualized choreography, simulated sexual contact with inanimate objects while clothed.
  • While the production does not require any nudity amongst the actors, some of the male presenting actors will be asked to perform shirtless.

The Metropolitan Opera will employ an intimacy director to safely stage this story with affirmative consent from the performers.

Rehearsals will be held from August 29th 2022 through September 28th 2022 Monday through Saturday between the hours of 10:00am-6:00pm. Performances will be on September 29th, October 2nd (matinee), 7th, 12th, 15th (matinee), 21st 2022.

You must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination and booster in order to enter The Metropolitan Opera building for this audition. You must comply with the Metropolitan’s Opera’s vaccination policy to be considered for an offer of employment. All audition attendees must wear a KN95 mask or equivalent at all times during the audition.

Employees of the Metropolitan Opera must be eligible to work in the United States. Individuals with O-1 visas are eligible to work at the Met.

The Actor Department at the Met Opera is non-jurisdictional for unions.
