John Adams’s El Niño
Eminent American composer John Adams returns to the Met after a decade-long hiatus for the company premiere of his acclaimed reimagining of the Nativity, in a vibrant Met-debut production by Lileana Blain-Cruz. El Niño brings together three of contemporary opera’s fiercest champions, all of whom also make company debuts: maestro Marin Alsop, soprano Julia Bullock, and bass-baritone Davóne Tines. Mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack completes the principal trio.

Puccini’s Madama Butterfly
In her highly anticipated Met debut, Asmik Grigorian stars as Cio-Cio-San, the loyal geisha at the heart of Puccini’s devastating tragedy. Jonathan Tetelman is the callous American naval officer Pinkerton, alongside Elizabeth DeShong as Suzuki and Lucas Meachem as Sharpless. Xian Zhang conducts.
