Strauss’s Salome

Claus Guth’s striking new production of Strauss’s one-act tragedy stars soprano Elza van den Heever as the abused and unhinged heroine, who demands the head of the imprisoned prophet Jochanaan, sung by baritone Peter Mattei. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts a cast that also includes tenor Gerhard Siegel as Salome’s lecherous stepfather, King Herod, and mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung as his wife, Herodias, with tenor Piotr Buszewski as Narraboth.
