Mozart
Idomeneo
Drawn from Greek myth and tales of the Trojan War, Idomeneo launched its 25-year-old composer to international operatic fame when it premiered in 1781. Nearly and two and half centuries later, it continues to compel audiences, as it did during the 2022–23 season when it returned to the Met, headlined by a dynamic ensemble of seasoned Mozart singers. In this radio broadcast, tenor Michael Spyres stars in the title role, alongside mezzo-soprano Kate Lindsey as his son, Idamante. Sopranos Ying Fang and Federica Lombardi are Ilia and Elettra, the two woman who vie for Idamante’s affection, with tenor Paolo Fanale as Idomeneo’s counselor Arbace. Maestro Manfred Honeck conducts the stately, utterly sublime score.
