Die Entführung aus dem Serail

Mozart’s delightful early comic opera is especially scintillating under the deft direction of Met Music Director James Levine. Christiane Eda-Pierre is Constanze, the Spanish lady being held against her will in the harem of Pasha Selim (Werner Klemperer). Also captured with her is her pert English maid Blonde (Kathleen Battle). Ara Berberian is Osmin, the fearsome, vengeful overseer of the harem. It’s up to Constanze’s beloved Belmonte (John Alexander) and his servant Pedrillo (James Atherton) to outwit Osmin and rescue their true loves.
