Rossini
Il Barbiere di Siviglia
It’s no wonder Rossini’s great comic work is one of the best-known operas of all time: the story is as irresistible as the sparkling, effervescent music, and with a cast of characters like this one, you can’t not laugh. Enchanting Roberta Peters is Rosina, a young woman as bright as she is pretty. She’s determined to marry Count Almaviva (Cesare Valletti) rather than her sour old guardian, Dr. Bartolo (Fernando Corena in one of his great roles). Thanks to some help from the wily Figaro (Frank Guarrera), it all ends happily.
