Strauss
Der Rosenkavalier
One of today’s most exhilarating talents, Lise Davidsen burst onto the Met scene in 2019 with her debut as Lisa in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades. In the years since, she has given career-defining performances in soaring roles by Wagner and Strauss, including during the 2022–23 season, when she took the stage as the Marschallin in Strauss’s elegant comedy Der Rosenkavalier. In this performance, presented as part of the Met’s Live in HD series of cinema transmissions, the Norwegian soprano joins mezzo-soprano Samantha Hankey as Octavian, the Marschallin’ s impetuous lover, and soprano Erin Morley as Sophie, the young heiress who comes between them. Bass Günther Groissböck is the lecherous Baron Ochs, with Maestro Simone Young on the podium to lead a stately—and uproarious—staging by director Robert Carsen.
