Verdi
Il Trovatore
Legendary tenor Enrico Caruso once famously remarked that for a successful presentation of Il Trovatore, “all you need are the four greatest singers in the world.” For this performance of Verdi’s fiery masterpiece, the Met assembled a cast of exciting young stars. Soprano Jennifer Rowley and tenor Yonghoon Lee are the passionate lovers Leonora and Manrico, who struggle against the forces of the ruthless Count di Luna, sung by baritone Quinn Kelsey. As Manrico’s traumatized mother, the gypsy Azucena, mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili completes the quartet of principal soloists. Maestro Marco Armiliato is on the podium for one of opera’s most electrifying scores.
