June 15–19 / 15–19 de junio: Hansel and Gretel (English version) / Hansel y Gretel (versión en inglés)
Music by / Música de Engelbert Humperdinck Libretto by / Libreto de Adelheid Wette English adaptation by / Adaptación inglesa de David Pountney Sung in English / Cantada en inglés Run Time / Duración: 2 hours
Two hungry children, a gingerbread house beyond their wildest dreams, and a wicked witch who gets her just deserts: Hansel and Gretel is a delectably fresh take on one of the most beloved stories of all time. Based on the eponymous story from Grimm’s Fairy Tales, this opera expands the story to include a whole host of magical characters, including the Sandman, a Dew Fairy, the infamous witch, and a dozen gigantic chefs who prepare a dream-feast in the middle of an enchanted forest.

June 22–26 / 22–26 de junio: Don Pasquale
Music by / Música de Gaetano Donizetti Libretto by / Libreto de Giovanni Ruffini and/y Gaetano Donizetti Sung in Italian / Cantada en italiano Run Time / Duración: 2 hours 25 minutes
Don Pasquale is an opera of pure, unadulterated farce, set to music that’s sparkling, brainy, and jaw-droppingly demanding. Gaetano Donizetti’s tale of an old bachelor and the loved ones who trick him into doing the right thing feels as fresh as a TV sitcom, though it’s been charming opera lovers for nearly 170 years.
Starring / Protagonistas: Anna Netrebko, Matthew Polenzani, Mariusz Kwiecien, John Del Carlo
June 29–July 3 / 29 de junio–3 de julio: Rusalka
Music by / Música de Antonín Dvořák Libretto by / Libreto de Jaroslav Kvapil Sung in Czech / Cantada en checo Run Time / Duración: 3 hours
Rusalka, a water nymph, lives a charmed life in a forest lake. But she has fallen deeply in love with a human prince, and her desire to walk in his world will lead her to sacrifice everything she has ever known. Antonín Dvořák’s opera was based on a Czech fairy tale, but the title character (whose name means simply “water nymph” in Czech) has much in common with other fairy-tale figures we know and love, including The Little Mermaid.
Music by / Música de Charles Gounod Libretto by / Libreto de Jules Barbier and/y Michel Carré Sung in French / Cantada en francés Run Time / Duración: 2 hours 55 minutes
For more than 400 years, William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has been a landmark piece of dramatic literature. It is also the source of some of the best-known images in the literary canon, and when Charles Gounod set about adapting Shakespeare’s play for the operatic stage, he distilled the story down to its most iconic moments: a masked ball, where two young foes unexpectedly meet; words of love exchanged on a moonlit balcony; a secret wedding; a desperate plan to be together in spite of violence and exile; and a reunion in a dark tomb, where the dying heroes prove that love is stronger than death.
Starring / Protagonistas: Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna, Nathan Gunn
July 13–17 / 13–17 de julio: The Magic Flute (English version) / La flauta mágica (versión en inglés)
Music by / Música de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Libretto by / Libreto de Emanuel Schikaneder English translation by / Traducción en ingles de J. D. McClatchy Sung in English / Cantada en inglés Run Time / Duración: 1 hour 55 minutes
A story of wild adventure and fairy-tale romance, The Magic Flute follows the prince Tamino on his quest to save the princess Pamina. Tamino’s journey brings him into contact with a host of unforgettable characters and creatures, including the jolly bird catcher Papageno, a giant snake, a mysterious brotherhood, and the devilish Queen of the Night. Over the course of his adventures, Tamino must solve strange riddles and decide whom he can trust as he wards off the forces of evil—but he must also learn that there can be no heroism without the help of true friends.
Starring / Protagonistas: Ying Huang, Erika Miklósa, Matthew Polenzani, Nathan Gunn, René Pape
July 20–24 / 20–24 de julio: The Merry Widow (English version) / La viuda alegre (versión en inglés)
Music by / Música de Franz Lehár Libretto by / Libreto de Victor Léon and / y Leo Stein Sung in English / Cantada en inglés Run Time / Duración: 2 HRS 28 MIN
As effervescent as a glass of Champagne, The Merry Widow is a hilarious, heartfelt, and utterly irresistible comedy set in fin-de-siècle Paris. Hanna Glawari, the “merry widow” of the work’s title, is a wealthy woman from the tiny principality of Pontevedro, which is teetering on the verge of bankruptcy. The Pontevedrian ambassador in Paris, desperate to save his country, has hatched a plan to marry Hanna to someone from Pontevedro—and thereby keep her millions in the national coffers. But as the Pontevedrians pursue their madcap scheme, Hanna cleverly finds one way after another to keep her destiny in her own hands (and maybe even save Pontevedro in the process).
Music by / Música de Gaetano Donizetti Libretto by / Libreto deJules-Henri Vernoy De Saint-Georges and / y Jean-François-Alfred Bayard Sung in French / Cantada en francés Run Time / Duración: 2 hours 25 minutes
Youthful rebellion, family drama, and tender young love––La Fille du Régiment is one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. Set high in the Austrian Alps, Gaetano Donizetti’s masterpiece tells the story of Marie, an intrepid young orphan raised by a regiment of French soldiers. When the man of her dreams turns out to be a rebel fighting against the French “family” she has always known, Marie has to overcome war, fatherly disapproval, and even the discovery of her own noble birth to find her own happy ending.
Music by / Música de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Libretto by / Libreto de Lorenzo da Ponte Sung in Italian / Cantada en italiano Run Time / Duración: 3 hours 15 minutes
On the surface, Mozart’s Così fan tutte has all the markings of a typical comic opera: tender lovers, a crafty maidservant, deceptions and pranks, trials and confessions, and a wedding at the conclusion. But upon closer study, the work explores depths of emotion previously untapped in opera buffa while moving between high farce and profound beauty. Throughout history it has been both accused of irony, cynicism, and triviality and celebrated for communicating deep emotional truth and philosophical import.
Starring / Protagonistas: Amanda Majeski, Serena Malfi, Kelli O’Hara, Ben Bliss, Adam Plachetka, Christopher Maltman
