Opera in the Classroom

The Met’s signature Educator Guides offer an interdisciplinary introduction to opera, empowering students to engage with and enjoy opera while meeting state and national academic standards. Each guide includes historical background on the opera and its source, a timeline of the composer’s life, synopses for young readers, fun facts, and four classroom-ready student activities.

Met Opera Education is strongly dedicated to bilingual and Spanish-language instruction. Since 2015, all materials generally distributed to students—including synopses, timelines, sidebar articles, and reproducible handouts—have been made available in Spanish translation.

All guides listed below are available as PDFs and in an online format optimized for screen-readers.
