Labor Relations Administrator

Position Summary

We are looking for a top-notch Labor Relations Administrator to join the Metropolitan Opera’s Human Resources-Payroll team. We serve approximately 3,000 employees, represented by more than a dozen different unions, who work both onstage and behind the scenes to bring our opera productions to life each season.

The Labor Relations Administrator plays a pivotal role in supporting successful labor negotiations and accurate administration of the Met’s collectively bargained agreements. Key responsibilities include performing research and analysis and taking minutes for negotiations and other labor meetings; drafting labor agreements and related rate charts; maintaining and accessing labor files; assisting with monthly dues and contributions processing; and providing general HR and Labor support to the Director of HR/Labor Relations and the rest of the department.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparations for and attend labor negotiations
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Met's collective bargaining agreements as well as non-contractual practices
  • Conduct research and analysis to help prepare for negotiations, grievance meetings and other labor matters
  • Take detailed minutes of negotiations sessions, grievance hearings and other labor-related meetings
  • Coordinate scheduling of negotiations, grievance meetings, and related preparatory sessions
  • Assist in drafting memoranda of agreement and collective bargaining agreements and updating related rate charts
  • Maintain and access physical and digital labor files
  • Assist with preparing and remitting monthly dues and contributions to various funds
  • Provide ongoing support to managers in interpreting CBAs and ensuring they are administered properly
  • Provide administrative support to Director of HR/Labor Relations and others in the department, as needed
  • Provide general support for the HR-Payroll department, which includes, but is not limited to, answering phones, handling walk-in traffic, answering employee questions, and filing

Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience with unions, preferably in the performing arts sector

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills - bi-lingual skills a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with other MS Office applications

  • Strong technological aptitude

  • Must be able to work well in a high-pressure/fast-paced environment

  • Must be able to deal with a variety of personality types with poise and professionalism

  • Must be able to learn and adapt to a changing work environment

  • Must be able to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion

  • Must be able to work successfully both independently and as part of a team

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear

  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand motion and to stand, walk, reach, bend

  • Occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.
