Cleaning Supervisor

Position Summary

We are looking for a Cleaning Supervisor to join the Metropolitan Opera’s building services team, which works to ensure our facilities meet the highest standards of cleanliness and uphold the Met’s reputation as a world-class performing arts venue.

This is a full-time, year-round position. The Cleaning Supervisor and other employees in the department are represented by Local 32BJ SEIU.

Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all areas are clean and well maintained.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and direct team members to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness are achieved

Schedule cleaning personnel to ensure operational and staffing needs consistently are met and that hours and tasks are distributed fairly and in a manner that maximizes efficiency

Train new hires and provide ongoing training to existing members of the department

Supervise daily housekeeping and ensure compliance with all policies, standards and procedures

Ensure department goals are communicated, understood, and met by team members

Supervise an effective cleaning inspection program for all areas of the building and provide coaching and corrective counseling to employees, as needed

Respond promptly to requests from other departments

Ensure the proper maintenance of all equipment and assist Building Services Manager in making arrangements for repair and/or replacement of used and damaged equipment

Comply with safety regulations and ensure supervisees comply, as well


Previous housekeeping experience required

Working knowledge of floor treatment machinery required

Previous leadership experience in housekeeping, leading through motivation, coaching and development preferred

Proficiency in use of computers and applications including Microsoft Outlook and Excel required

Two-year diploma/degree from an accredited university in hospitality or related field preferred

Bi-lingual skills a plus

Work/Physical Demands:

Frequently required to use repetitive hand motion and to stand, walk, reach, bend

Required to be able to lift up to 50 pounds

Able to operate vacuums and large floor-care machinery
