
Polish American soprano Magdalena Kuźma is in her first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. This season, she makes her Met debut as Giannetta in L’Elisir d’Amore. During the season, she has appeared as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte at Opera Orlando, will sing Juliette in Roméo et Juliette with the Glimmerglass Festival, and give solo recitals with Lyric Fest and at Wigmore Hall and Merkin Concert Hall. Last summer, she sang Frasquita in Carmen at the Santa Fe Opera. Previous credits include the soprano soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Richmond Symphony, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore at Yale University, Lila in Jennifer Higdon’s Cold Mountain at Music Academy of the West, Blanche in Dialogues de Carmélites and Anna in Weill’s Die Sieben Todsünden at Oberlin Opera, and several mainstage roles at the Chautauqua Institution and Teatro Petrarca. Notable accolades include first place in the Butler International Competition, American Council for Polish Culture’s Marcella Kochańska Sembrich Vocal Competition, Pasadena Opera Competition, John Alexander National Vocal Competition at Mississippi Opera, and Concert Artists Guild Competition; second place in the Met’s Laffont Competition regional auditions and Shreveport Opera Competition; and third place and the Audience Favorite award in the National Opera Association Competition. She is an alumna of the Merola Opera Program, Ravinia Festival, Renée Fleming’s SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artists Vocal Academy, and the Bach Institute at Emmanuel Music. She holds bachelor’s degrees in music and psychology from Oberlin College and Conservatory, and a master’s degree in vocal performance from Yale University, where she received the Dean’s Award and was honored as valedictorian.
