Join us on Thursday, February 1 for a workshop designed to introduce educators to Donizetti's opera L'Elisir d'Amore. Teaching Artist Joseph Valone wil use popular games and character analysis as techniques. Following "Opera Mythbusters," a student-accessible introduction to the art form, this workshop will explore the bel canto period and how it changed the course of opera and led to the development of the modern opera singer. Further activities will delve into practices that introduce the opera's characters and the distinctiveness of their music. The session will close with a talk show-style improv activity aimed at reinforcing students' understanding of the opera's characters, motivations, and style of expression.
Training rate payment is available for teachers who attend the workshop and bring students to the workshop and bring students to the February 10 broadcast of L'Elisir d'Amore at our NYC sites. Met workshops also count towards required professional development hours.
After attending the workshop, you will be eligible to purchase discounted tickets ($55) to the Met performance of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore on Saturday, February 3 at 8:00pm.
