Position Summary

The Production Department of The Metropolitan Opera oversees all production and technical details related to the development, creation, rehearsal, and performance of the opera repertory, presentations and special events, as well as the operation, maintenance, and improvements of the Metropolitan Opera stage, shops, and warehouses.

The Production Coordinator provides support to the Assistant General Manager/Production as the liaison to the visiting designers and directors and through the day to day administration of the Production Department administrative staff, communicating and coordinating the flow of production information, coordination of the design and stage departments on Presentations and Special Events.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordination and management of all production team and staff travel arrangements, fee and per diem payments, and associated reimbursements
  • Coordination and management of the Scheduling Committee and preparation of the seasonal master Block Schedule
  • Participation in weekly production development meetings.
  • Oversight of the production internship program, including recruiting and supervising the activities of our annual Production Intern position as well as seasonal interns
  • Manage all department tickets, including Final Dress & performance duty seats and special requests
  • Proof read promotional and programming materials for accurate crediting information.
  • Lead orientation for new hires in coordination with Human Resources and IS/IT Departments.
  • Administrate various shared departmental outlook Calendars

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • College degree with minimum of 5 years’ experience in performing arts administration
  • Excellent computer skills required, including: Microsoft OS and MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) Adobe Reader, digital file storage and organization
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to actively anticipate and troubleshoot issues
  • Experience managing team members and group workflow
  • Excellent interpersonal and written skills required
  • Live performance/opera knowledge preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple short-term and long-term tasks simultaneously in a constantly changing work environment, with varying degrees of oversight
  • Ability to interact professionally with a variety of personalities and numerous different levels of authority
  • Respectful management of confidential information and personnel issues
