Position Summary

The Marketing Copywriter acts as an integral member of the editorial team within the marketing department. This position is responsible for writing and editing effective and creative copy for a wide range of materials including, but not limited to, season brochures, print and online advertisements, e-blasts, and editorial content for the Met’s Playbill and website. The Marketing Copywriter will also work occasionally with the Development department on fundraising materials.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Write, proofread, and edit content for a variety of materials including season brochures, website, programs, ads, and in-house publications
  • Work with Graphics and Marketing departments to create marketing content for print, online, e-marketing, editorial, television, and radio outlets
  • Confidently juggle multiple deadlines and priorities for a wide range of projects, with great initiative and self-motivation
  • Understand how to talk about opera to a broader public as well as to knowledgeable opera-goers

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • At least 4-6 years of experience as a copywriter, specifically within a marketing department or advertising agency
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Detail oriented with exceptional proofreading skills and great command of the English language
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Must possess knowledge of music, opera, and the performing arts in general
  • Must be able to craft a variety of messages aimed at different audiences
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit arts organization a plus
  • Knowledge of other languages a plus
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and maintain good humor and grace in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Must have a flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work
