A new 40th anniversary collection of 23 complete Met performances, all conducted by Maestro Levine, was released in September. The two box sets, featuring 32 CDs and 21 DVDs, include performances that have never before been commercially available. The lineup includes classics such as Le Nozze di Figaro, less-heard masterpieces like Berlioz’s Les Troyens, and the world premieres of Harbison’s The Great Gatsby and Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles. James Levine's Met career is the subject of a new documentary by award-winning filmmaker Susan Froemke (The Audition). The film premiered as part of a gala evening honoring the maestro on May 1, 2011. The film can be seen on the PBS series American Masters on June 1. Check local listings.
The Met’s 2011 keepsake wall calendar features a colorful selection of performance, rehearsal, and backstage images from Maestro Levine's 40 years with the company. A large-format book celebrating his anniversary in photos, essays, and anecdotes from colleagues and the maestro himself was published in May. Both items are available at the Met Opera Shop and at metoperashop.org.
The MET Orchestra’s annual concert series at Carnegie Hall, launched in 1991 by Maestro Levine, returned in the 2010–11 season. All three programs were broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SIRIUS XM.
