Salvatore Cordella will sing the role of Nemorino in this evening’s performance of Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore, replacing Ramón Vargas, who is ill.

Cordella made his company role debut as Nemorino when he replaced Vargas in last Saturday’s matinee broadcast performance. The Italian tenor made his Met debut in January 2013 as Leicester in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda. He returned to the Met later that season to sing the role of Alfredo in Verdi’s La Traviata.

L’Elisir d’Amore is conducted by Maurizio Benini and also stars Anna Netrebko as Adina, Nicola Alaimo as Belcore, and Erwin Schrott as Dr. Dulcamara.
