First Guard in The Magic Flute

Korean tenor Jonghyun Park begins his first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program this season where he made his Met debut as the First Guard in the beloved holiday presentation of The Magic Flute and will cover the role of Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette. This summer, he will study and perform with the Académie du Festival d'Aix-en-Provence in France. He recently appeared as Fenton in Falstaff at Opera San José and covered Fenton at Palm Beach Opera. During his time in the Merola Opera Program, he covered Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and sang the role of the Solo Voice in de Falla's La Vida Breve as part of the Schwabacher Summer Concert Series. He has performed Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore, Oronte in Alcina, Rodolfo in La Bohème with Yale Opera, and was featured in the Yale Opera Gala with the Yale Philharmonic. On the concert stage, he was the tenor soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Brandford Chamber Orchestra and Mozart's Requiem with the Waterbury Symphony. Recent accolades include second place in the New England Region of the Met's Laffont Competition, third prize in the Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition, Encouragement Prize in the Daegu International Vocal Music Competition, first prize in the Nanpa National Music Competition, second prize in the Classical Music Magazine Music Competition, first prize in the Herald Music Competition, and third prize in the Korean Voice Competition. He holds degrees in voice from Seoul National University and Yale University.
