First Guard in The Magic Flute

Daniel O’Hearn is a tenor from Illinois in his first year in the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program after being named a 2022 Grand Finalist in the Laffont Competition. During the 2023–24 season, he reprised his Met debut role of the First Guard in The Magic Flute and will cover the role of Benvolio in Roméo et Juliette, and make his role debut as Roméo at Vashon Opera. This summer, he will cover Canino in Pagliacci at the Glimmerglass Festival. Recent operatic engagements include Steuermann in Der Fliegende Holländer at Pittsburgh Opera, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto at Vashon Opera, Cecil in Roberto Devereux at Washington Concert Opera, and covering the role of Le Remendado in Carmen at the Santa Fe Opera. With Utah Opera, he performed the roles of Bill in Dove's Flight and Spoletta in Tosca, while also covering Count Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Frederic in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance. He has performed in several concert works including Stravinsky's Pulcinella and Handel's Messiah with the Utah Symphony under the baton of Maestro Thierry Fischer. In addition to his success in the Laffont Competition, he has won top prize at the 2024 Saengerbund German Vocal Competition, the 2019 American Prize Chicago Oratorio Award and placed first in the 2019 Kleinman Competition. He is an alumnus of the Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artist Program, Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Artist Program, and Utah Opera Resident Artist Program and holds degrees in music from DePaul University.
