Remembering Irene Spiegelman

The Metropolitan Opera mourns the death of Irene Spiegelman, an invaluable member of the company for 40 years. She began at the Met in 1977 coaching German diction for the Met premiere of Berg’s Lulu and worked with generations of opera’s leading stars on a variety of German repertory including two productions of Wagner’s Ring cycle. Over many years, she worked extensively with the Met young artists on German diction and translated Met Titles for German operas, and was actively working for the Met as recently as this week. We offer our sincerest condolences to her family and friends.
