Park Premiere

July 11th, 2016

For more than 50 years, the Met has offered free performances in parks throughout New York City during the summer months. The very first company performance in Central Park took place as part of the Met’s inaugural Lincoln Center season. (This flyer details the 12 park performances—each a concert performance of a complete opera—that were presented in the summer of 1968, the second year following the opening of the new house.) The legacy of those early parks concerts has endured to the present day: the Met’s 2016 Summer Recital Series kicked off Wednesday, June 22, at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park as part of SummerStage.
