Research Associate

The Research Associate identifies, qualifies, and researches individuals, corporations and foundations in support of the fundraising efforts of the Metropolitan Opera.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify and qualify new prospective Patrons and Major Gifts donors
  • Identify current Patrons with the inclination and capacity to upgrade their membership level
  • Conduct in-depth, detailed research and analysis to determine the capacity and interests of individuals, corporations and foundations
  • Write clear, concise, confidential profiles and briefings
  • Update and maintain research data in Tessitura system
  • Provide reactive research for cultivation and ticketed events
  • Work on special projects as assigned

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least two to three years of research experience in a non-profit setting
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, accuracy and proper grammar and punctuation
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information and material in a discreet manner
  • Ability to accommodate shifting priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Familiarity with web-based research resources and databases
  • Tessitura skills a plus
  • Ability to multi-task
